Draft 2
“Leveling the playing field’
American believe that their country is an egalitarian society, that is, a society of equals. The means all the Americans should have an equal opportunity to compete for resources such as jobs, housing, and education. Is a Leveling the Playing Field around all of us? However, both the government and the public have been trying to get more improve for equal rights which are Gender discrimination, Right for the disabled and Age and ageism.
Gender discrimination, Right for the disabled and Age and ageism, equal access and opportunity are not enough for some protected groups. On our text book Page 135, gender discrimination, a woman who works full time earn just 77 cents for every dollar that man with equal experience earn for equal work. This is not equal mean for a woman works in the same way compares with the man, she should be paid in the same way. On the same way, right for the disabled, in employment, it states that if a person with a disability is qualified to do a particular job, the employer must accommodate that person, that is, the employer must offer reasonable assistance for that worker, For example, a worker in a wheelchair might need a special desk. This kind of accommodation can be expensive, and many employers have resisted these changes in spite of the law. The government need to impose more laws in order to protect the disabled persons let them to be just like other people who live independent and productive lives. On the other way, age and ageism, specifically, against people who are 40 years old or older, they may fire older workers, who often cost employers more than younger workers, without providing a reason. Older workers who are more difficulty finding a new job than younger workers. Antidiscrimination law apply to protected classes in employment, housing, education, health care and politics. Federal law also prohibits discrimination against people because of their age.
The United states and its citizens take pride in their belief in equality. However, equal access and opportunity are not enough for some protected groups. We should give them extra assistance, including some certain guarantees or representation in education and the workplace. This stronger action can also create diversity that better reflects the communities in which they live.
